Director of R&D (Data Center Development)

As part of an aggressive North American expansion, we are establishing dedicated regional R&D leadership for the very first time.
As the inaugural R&D Leader – North America, you will operate at the cutting edge of power engineering, grid intelligence, and critical infrastructure. This is a highly visible, strategic mandate: you will directly shape the next generation of solutions, influence global R&D directives alongside European engineering headquarters, and serve as the paramount technical authority for the region's most strategic enterprise clients.

Compensation: $180,000 - $220,000 with a 20% target annual bonus
Responsibilities
You will serve as our principal technical authority in North America bridging customer needs, regional strategy, and global R&D. Working across Sales, Solutions Engineering, Product Management, and our global headquarters engineering teams, you’ll translate real-world field insights into commercial product requirements.
Drive the Regional R&D Strategy: Build an R&D roadmap grounded in market trends, strategic customer feedback, and global goals. You’ll anticipate emerging requirements in critical infrastructure, AI data centers, and industrial power, building structured business cases and technical proposals to act on them.
Validate Ideas directly with Strategic Accounts: Spend time with key clients to identify unmet technical needs. You will design proof-of-concepts, prototypes, and reference architectures to test new ideas, partnering with Sales on complex opportunities where novel technical approaches set us apart.
Influence the Global Product Roadmap: Serve as the strategic bridge to our overseas product and engineering groups. You’ll translate North American market signals into concrete hardware, firmware, software, and integration requirements, while building reference architectures and packaged solution offerings.
Initial Technical Focus Areas
Your priorities will evolve with the roadmap you build, but your immediate focus will cover:
Data Centers & High-Density Systems: AI data center monitoring, including DC power systems and high-density load profiling.
Advanced Power Quality Analytics: Sub-synchronous oscillation, supraharmonic detection, waveform capture, and grid stability monitoring.
Architecture & Telemetry: Meter-to-software integrations across Modbus TCP, OPC UA, MQTT, and IEC 61850, as well as custom customer telemetry pipelines.
Intelligent Applications: AI-assisted troubleshooting, anomaly detection, and predictive maintenance solutions.
Qualifications
The Baseline Requirements
Education & Core Experience: B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, backed by 10+ years in electronic design and R&D focused on power systems, energy monitoring, or critical infrastructure.
Domain & Technical Depth: Deep understanding of electrical distribution, power quality, and power metering. You are proficient in C/C++, MATLAB, or Python for simulation and prototyping.
Hands-on Execution: Proven track record building functional proof-of-concepts, prototypes, and customized technical solutions to validate commercial ideas.
Leadership & Influence: Excellent communication skills with an ability to translate complex power engineering into clear, strategic messages for executives, sales teams, and enterprise clients.
Adaptability: Comfortable stepping into an ambiguous, greenfield environment to establish structure, define processes, and build a playbook from scratch.
What Will Make You Stand Out
Advanced Education: M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical, Systems, or Computer Engineering.
Protocol & Software Savvy: Hands-on experience with industrial protocols (Modbus TCP, OPC UA, MQTT, BACnet, IEC 61850), APIs, cloud architectures, or applied AI/ML applications.
Industry & Global Exposure: Direct background in power quality meters or energy management systems, ideally working within a global cross-functional product and engineering framework.

In your first 12 months, success in this role means:
Strategic Alignment: You have built, socialized, and aligned a North American R&D roadmap directly with our global product strategy.
Rapid Prototyping: You have developed and presented 2–3 validated proof-of-concepts for inclusion in our upcoming product roadmap.
Customer-Centric Insight: You have deepened relationships with key accounts through direct technical engagement, capturing and documenting their unmet operational needs.
Commercial Momentum: At least one new solution concept has advanced toward a formal product offering, strategic partnership, or funded development initiative.
Global Integration: North American customer requirements are systematically surfaced and actioned within our global engineering and product development processes.
