About the Role

We are looking for a creative and meticulous CPG Packaging Designer to drive our packaging process from initial concept to the retail shelf. In this role, you will own the end-to-end design lifecycle, guiding structural development, material selection, and final print production for our retail product lines. Collaborating with cross-functional teams and external vendors, you will ensure our packaging is functional, sustainable, and highly impactful. This is a prime opportunity to champion innovative, eco-friendly packaging solutions that elevate our brand identity and support seamless product launches.


Location: Sterling, VA (Hybrid - 2 days remote)

Schedule: Standard

Compensation: $75-85k


Qualifications
  • Experience: 3–5 years in CPG packaging design (food & beverage or broader CPG industry experience preferred).

  • Software: Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) and Blender or equivalent 3D mockup software.

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of print specs, production processes, materials, and manufacturing/commercialization.

  • Project Management: Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.

  • Travel: Ability to travel to vendor facilities approximately once per month.

  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Tools (Preferred): Familiarity with Canva, AI tools (Adobe Firefly), and Microsoft 365 (PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook).


Key Responsibilities
  • Artwork & 3D: Create retail packaging artwork and 3D mockups for stakeholder approvals.

  • Tech Specs: Develop structures, dielines, material specs, and BOMs, ensuring high manufacturability and cost-efficiency across supply chain systems.

  • Production & Travel: Partner on line trials/start-ups (monitoring machinery capabilities); travel to print vendors ~1x/month for press checks.

  • Cost Savings: Lead packaging cost-reduction projects without sacrificing technical quality.

  • Compliance: Ensure all packaging meets regulatory, legal, and brand standards.

  • Sustainability: Source and implement innovative, eco-friendly materials and solutions.

  • Project Lifecycle: Manage packaging projects from concept through commercialization and launch.

  • Timelines: Build project schedules, track milestones, communicate capital expenditure estimates, and mitigate technical risks.

  • Vendor Management: Coordinate with print vendors on structures, finishes, materials, and specs.

  • Team Support: Assist the creative team with marketing assets, presentations, and digital collateral.
